			<title>Same-sex monarchs - Bod proposes new language, want feedback</title>
			<link>http://www.bluefeather.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&amp;t=182</link>

			<description>&#x3C;h5&#x3E;&#x3C;a href="http://www.bluefeather.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=14" title="SCA"&#x3E;SCA&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/h5&#x3E;
&#x3C;b&#x3E;Same-sex monarchs - Bod proposes new language, want feedback&#x3C;/b&#x3E;

As noted in the Inspirational Equality Facebook group, the Board of Directors released this information:

&#x3C;blockquote class="uncited"&#x3E;&#x3C;div&#x3E;At the Oct 2011 Board meeting, in response to a formal request from An Tir and a substantial amount of related correspondence from our membership, we committed to crafting proposed language to allow same-gender consorts at the Crown/Coronet List level to send out for commentary. This topic is clearly emotionally charged for many people, whether for or against the change. We do not have clear direction from a majority of participants based on either the Census data or the correspondence received to date.

The Board therefore solicits commentary on the following potential language change to its governing documents in hopes of eliciting commentary and direction from the membership:

Current language:
Each competitor in a Royal Lists must be fighting for a consort of the opposite gender.

Proposed Language:
Each competitor in a Royal Lists must be fighting for a consort of the opposite gender. Crowns may permit entry into the Royal Lists by same-gender couples.

Comments on this proposal are due by April 1, 2012 (to comments  AT  lists DOT sca DOT org). Please use the title &#x26;quot;Same-Gender Consort Proposal&#x26;quot; in the Subject line.&#x3C;/div&#x3E;&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

Personally I think it's sloppy English, confusing wording, and all in all a poor compromise (a la &#x26;quot;Don't Ask, Don't Tell&#x26;quot;). Whatever you think, by all means give your feedback!

Also, a new petition has been set up if you want to sign it:

&#x3C;a class="postlink" href="http://www.change.org/petitions/allow-same-sex-couples-in-sca-crown-tourneys"&#x3E;http://www.change.org/petitions/allow-s ... n-tourneys&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

			<title>Lawsuit settlement information</title>
			<link>http://www.bluefeather.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&amp;t=181</link>

			<description>&#x3C;h5&#x3E;&#x3C;a href="http://www.bluefeather.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=14" title="SCA"&#x3E;SCA&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/h5&#x3E;
&#x3C;b&#x3E;Lawsuit settlement information&#x3C;/b&#x3E;

From the Bod:

&#x26;quot;Yesterday evening an announcement was made by the Board of Directors of the Society for Creative Anachronism outlining financial concerns created by a long standing lawsuit and the settlement thereof.

Two PDF files or WORD Documents are available for your perusal at:

&#x3C;a class="postlink" href="http://www.sca"&#x3E;http://www.sca&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. org/BOD/announce ments/settlement .html

Our hope is that you will read them over carefully at your leisure.

The first, 'Announcement from the Board and Officers of the SCA,' deals with the background of the lawsuit and the actual settlement.

The second, 'FAQs about the Settlement,' is presented as questions and answers about the settlement, the impact the settlement will have on land groups and how each of us can become better informed or have our concerns addressed.&#x26;quot;

The jist of it is the civil lawsuit is being settled for $1.3M, but the lawsuit against the insurance companies to pay the legal fees is ongoing. The SCA is going to bill each kingdom 18% of its monies to cover both the settlement and the ongoing lawsuit, with the proviso that if the insurance companies are held liable the kingdoms will get at least some of that money back.

It's a nasty business, but personally I think this is the best way to put this behind us and move forward.

&#x3C;b&#x3E;SCAdians of BF - Steppes Barony, Dallas Area&#x3C;/b&#x3E;

Hello all!

I'm already part of my Kingdom's forum, but it just made more sense to ask here,

I'm just curious as to how many of us here on the BF forum are part of the Steppes in Ansteorra?  Due to physical disability, it seems a slim chance that I'd ever make it to Pensic on my own and it seems like most everyone here meets up at Pensic War. &#x3C;img src="http://www.bluefeather.org/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /&#x3E;

The census results of my Kingdom seem rather disheartening - so I was just wondering what my chances are meeting others from our Clan in a local setting.

&#x3C;b&#x3E;BoD update&#x3C;/b&#x3E;

Updates from the BoD meeting on SCAToday.net:

&#x3C;a class="postlink" href="http://www.scatoday.net/node/21565"&#x3E;http://www.scatoday.net/node/21565&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

Very encouraging news! In essence, they've agreed that perhaps the time has come, and that they need to examine Corpora, come up with a plan, present concrete changes, invite feedback, and then decide. This will take several months to process, so don't be afraid to contact the BoD with your feedback at comments AT SCA DOT org.

Also, the Census results about the same-sex royalty question was also released:

&#x3C;a class="postlink" href="http://www.sca.org/scacensus2010/#data"&#x3E;http://www.sca.org/scacensus2010/#data&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

Some interesting statistical analysis there.

&#x3C;b&#x3E;Re: Introduce yourself!!&#x3C;/b&#x3E;

My name is Lisa Lai. I'm building a Japanese persona (waves to the webmaster!) and will likely ask advice of any Japanese history fans to be sure I'm on track. I'm looking to portray hitorical homosexuality in ancient SCA-period Japan and intend to play a male persona. (I'm an amateur drag king as it is, anyway. ;D)

I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which is the Canton of Eoforwic in the Kingdom of Ealdormere. I'm originally from San Marcos, Texas, which is the Shire of Ffynnon Gath in the kingdom of Ansteorra. (waves to fellow Ansteorrans!)

I'm your garden variety anime nerd with a healthy dose of fantasy nerd thrown in, and dish of science fiction nerd on the side.

I don't get out to SCA events as often as I should but hope to rectify that soon enough. Would love to meet any local blue feathers as well as talk to any lovely ladies anywhere who don't mind a king in their court. &#x3C;img src="http://www.bluefeather.org/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /&#x3E;

I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone!

So, it's official. Dragano and I are going to have our marrage at Samhain in Duncan Oklahoma. We are in the final phases of planning for this wonderful event. For all of those who will be in the Ansteorra area the last weekend of October, we would like to extend an invitation to you to attend.

&#x3C;b&#x3E;Re: Petition to Repeal the Same-gender Couples Ban in Crown&#x3C;/b&#x3E;

3 good arguments came out of some of those online discussions - documentable historical examples, modern sensibilities regarding equality, and the fact that the SCA is about re-creation, not accurate re-enactment. I think those are some pretty strong arguments, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what the BoD has to say.

&#x3C;b&#x3E;Gulf War XX Follow-up&#x3C;/b&#x3E;

Gulf War XX was an absolute blast this year.
Friday night I am pleased to say that we had about 20+ people of both dark blue and light blue feathers show up to the Happy Hour.
We all made some new acquaintances and had a great time getting to know one another. I look forward to arranging another gathering next year at Gulf War and hope this will grow over time as more people know about it.
I'm not sure what the plan will be for next year but i've connected with several on Facebook already and we will discuss details when that time rolls nearer.

Thank you to all who showed up!!!

&#x3C;b&#x3E;Pridefloat&#x3C;/b&#x3E;

Pridefloat might interest GLBT in the Midwest, especially if you're not making Pennsic. It's an annual canoe float/camping trip near Lebanon, MO (I-44, close to Springfield) on July 15-18, 2011.

Price ($35/person) seems high for the area until you factor in the camping--then it's about right.

This year the theme is Roman Holiday.  Lots of pictures from previous years at &#x3C;a href="http://pridefloat.org/" class="postlink"&#x3E;http://pridefloat.org/&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

Some of them are surprising for this part of the country (those folks &#x26;quot;must not be from around here&#x26;quot;).

I plan to attend with friends from my local progressive radio station.

I know this seems like early notice, but this tends to sell out in May.

&#x3C;b&#x3E;Passing of the Ice Dragon?&#x3C;/b&#x3E;

Is anyone going to be there? It's in Aethelmearc (Buffalo, NY). I'll be entering Pent if I can get everything done in time. If not, I'll just enter what I have (:
